My fave beauty essentials for 2012

Hey fam!

Two posts in a row? I'm on a roll y'all.

It's already the end of the year so I reckoned I give a summary of my favourite items this year. I'll be starting with beauty products and over the course of the week, I would progress through other items - books, clothing, accessories, gadgets e.t.c.

Being a newbie in all things makeup, this post may come across as very basic for pros out there (nor vex, ehn lol)

So, here we go...

1. Lip gloss

Very, very essential - what would a girl do without lipgloss? I find that lipgloss gives that added facelift for those times that you want to go with little or no makeup. A favourite of mine is the Barry M lipgloss wand in toffee. It coats the lips smoothly, gives a very good shine that lasts and the toffee colour gives it a very natural finish.

2. Concealer / Foundation

We all know why this is important so I'm going to skip the explanation. My best foundation everrr is the Revlon Photoready in cappuccino - it has a good cover, is light on the skin and does not give a 'cakey' look. I recently started using concealer and after a lot of research on YouTube decided to buy the Black Opal concealer wand which gives a wonderful finish.

3. Facial wipes

With the concealer and foundation application on the skin, the need for a good skin routine cannot be over-emphasised. So, after a long day, I wipe my face before taking a shower so as to remove as much makeup as possible from my face. I'm not too fussed about the brand but I do try to use baby wipes because its gentle on the skin (if its gentle enough for a baby's bum, its gentle enough for my skin, eii?). In the absence of that I use Johnson's Facial care or any other one that seems gentle enough.

4. Hand lotion

Yep, hand creams are must-haves, believe me you want your hands moisturised all day. A favourite of mine is the Neutrogena hand lotion. This one has no scent and after a bit a rubbing in, leaves your palms feeling soft and smooth. The only drawback of this hand lotion is that you have to apply little portions at a time till you get the desired amount of moisturisation (too much of the lotion just sits on your skin, believe me, you do not want that). Being that I have used it for a while now, I know the perfect quantity to apply.

5. Body Splash

I absolutely love wearing a delicious scent and body splashes do just that. They give a nice feminine scent which is not over-powering but beautifully lingers around you. My fave in this category is the Body Fantasies in Vanilla spray. It's cheap but keeps me with a fresh scent. Also, there's the Victoria Secret range of body mists and they are wonderful.

So that's it guys, five simple products that I use day-in-day-out this year and which I think every lady should invest in (except maybe the foundation-some do not need this).

I'll be back with more products in another category, maybe clothing, who knows...

...and that's what I reckon!xx

I'm back.......A year later!

Heyyy fam!

It's been loooonnnggg or as my naija people would say, 'it has tayyed!' How have you all been? Good?

O..k, so why did I stop blogging? I'd say school, work and life in general got busy, busy, busy and I must confess, I haven't been the best at time management but that is about to change because I have just put on my 'Time Manager' hat and it's not going off any time soon!

I'd give a summary of what I've been up to. I completed my masters programme in December last year (yay me!), got a job at a bank few months before graduating and continued with it post graduation. I later changed jobs (to another bank) and that's where I work at the moment. Being a chemical engineer by training, I'm still looking for engineering jobs....but that's a story for another day.

Over the course of the year, I did some introspecting and sort of discovered myself and in my next few blogs, I would be letting some of this out.

I have some fresh ideas for this blog actually, I want it to be fun and not overly serious. I would also be jazzing up the look (as soon as I get hold of my laptop of course, the iPad isn't making it easy for me) and of course try getting more readers. In the meantime, let me know your thoughts and ideas and anything you wanna share.

...and that's what i reckon! xx

Yea, and the Part 2 of the Friends Without Benefits story would not be continued. To be honest, I can't remember all the details of what happened following the last post as it has been sooo long. What I can tell you, however, is that we wanted different things from the relationship: he enjoyed talking to me but wanted a little 'extra'. I enjoyed talking to him but was just fine with the way we were i.e no awkward talk or wooing, just long interesting conversations once in a while ;) Selfish more on my part than his, I must confess. To cut the long story short, we did in fact become good friends - without any of such benefits of course. Without sounding competitive, I'd like to say I won! ;)

Friends with benefits?? :s....Part1

o....k! friends with benefits? really?

There i am on the train, checking for my seat number and with my peripheral vision i sight this dude- lets call him the 'train dude'- checking out his breath and looking at me. At this point i'm thinking, 'you know what, i hope that's my seat right next to him'. Please note that i had no ulterior motives, just trying to expand my network. What do you know, he's actually on my seat. I nicely told him i had reserved the seat and he apologized and scooted over to the next available one which was just beside it.

Being the girl that i am which is quite antisocial reserved, i settle in and start thumbing away on my blackberry. We seat for close to an hour typing on our blackberries until he initiated a convo (can't remember how) as follows:

train dude: Do you go there? He asks pointing at my university hooded sweater

me: yea, do you?

train dude: yea, actually, i went there.

me: *ever the interviewer* Really? Which set? What course did you study?

train dude: Yep, i graduated with the last set...studied Project Management

me: oh, real nice

*****at this point lets shorten 'train dude' to td *****

td: what do u study there?

me: Chemical Engineering

td: wow, smart girl!

me: Amen!

td: laughs

then we get talking.....i never give out my number but in this case i did, td seemed smart, not like one of 'em guys who would call you to talk nonsense (yea, like its ever written on the face). We exchange 'nice to meet yous' and depart.

The next couple of days, he sent innocent texts sparingly which was alright. Then the calls began....still ok. Then long phone conversations...at this point, warning bells are going off! Its not like its a problem but with the tone of conversations, the innuendos, one can pretty much guess what each party is interested in. I probably led him on knowingly unknowingly but that was it, i wasn't into him 'like that'.

td never felt completely 'safe' with me cos i kinda knew all the guy tricks and was sorta immune to them so much so that he said that i hang out with too many guys. So i started fishing for his true intentions, on some level i guess it was a weird game for us both.

How did i know his plans??

  1. for starters, he only makes late night calls
  2. he sounds funny at some point in the conversation (almost like he's errm 'jerking off') then he says things like, 'say something nice to me'.....o..k. 'make me feel good'. WTH! and he said it almost like we were doing the deed.. if you know what i mean by that.
  3. for some reason he makes calls while looking at himself in the mirror (weird, yea?)
  4. Seriously, who tells someone he/she sees once (on a train i might add) to come visit and stay for a weekend?? like, seriously??

then one day:

td: why are you putting me through this?

me: through what?

td: you know i like you

me: who wouldn't

**we both laugh**
to be continued...

...and that's what i reckon! xx

Meet the Blogger 2: A few of my favorite things

Yo, I'm back!.

So when i'm not trying to solve engineering problems and all, there are some things i absolutely love. I have decided to share some of these things today :). So, in no particular order....here goes..

A Good Read: Novels by Dean Koontz, Magazines any interesting piece of literature really. On the bus,at the beach, pool side, parks etc.

My Boyfy: *blushing* the only person who truely understands me,  my best friend (i sometimes forget he's my boyfriend.....i gross him out then he goes, 'hey! I'm your boyfriend, you know??...i'm like, 'hmmn...that's true!').
He could be really annoying sometimes, but even at those times, he's still the sweetest person in the world. I know thats so damn cliche, but it is what it is...mannie rocks!

Killer Heels: Nothing beats the instant sassiness that a nice pair of high heels give. Being about 5-3'', i tend to always wear heels...always! Not because, i don't like my height (i looove my height, i can practically switch between different heights as i please) but because, they just look good on me..hehehe!
Recently though, due to the weather, i've found myself mainly in winter boots. Plus the fact that i have to sometimes run to catch the bus to  my faculty doesn't help matters! Still love my heels though, so i find time and occassions for 'us' to have 'our' time lol

Playsuits: Now, that's a piece of clothing i really dig. The funny thing is, i don't have any of that in my walk-in closet!

Cool Ride...preferably a 'drop top': Yep! Another 'favorite thing' which i don't have (not yet, anyway ;))

Now, look at that *dreamy eyes*. I can just imagine myself in that, cool shades on, my hair in the wind, music blaring....

Comedies: I love to laugh...if its funny, i wonna watch it. I know funny is subjective, for instance, a friend of mine (yea, i have a few of those) thinks How i Met your Mother isn't funny....i mean, who thinks that?? I think its absolutely hilarious, but that's just me.. I'm also into TV shows that follow a good story line like: Medical dramas (e.g Grey's Anatomy), Legal dramas (e.g The Good Wife), Greek, 90210, Gossip girl, Pretty little liars, Vampire Diaries....

Good Music + Singing + Dancing: There's something about music...it could be therapeutic, a special place to escape to.....i love rockin' to good music!

Blah...blah...blah!...I am literally bored of talking about me. That's one more thing you should know about me. So, i guess this is where we call it a wrap today!

Before you go, here's a treat...its kinda old, but it doesn't matter. Here's how to enjoy it: increase the volume, sing along and simply rock with it! woohoo!!!

o.k, one more..

bye guys!

...and that's what i reckon! xx
